Further progress as Newport retirement village edges towards phase one handover – Diary entry eight – July and August
The Newport integrated retirement community project has been progressing well over the summer – ahead of two major milestones in the coming months.
Having opened the show bungalow in July – the first phase of the site which includes 40 apartments and the communal areas, will be handed over to Untold Living next month (September).
McPhillips has made significant progress over the summer months – as the project gets ready to move to a new phase.
Project manager Darren Lewis said the team were excited to move onto phase two.
He said: “We have continued to see real progress in the project, as we move towards Untold welcoming the first residents later this year.
“In August we have seen significant steps made including all of the balconies on the apartments being fitted, with decorators moving into different parts of the building.
“We’re really pleased with how things have been going, as we now prepare for phase one of the site to be handed over to Untold next month.”
Here is some of the progression that has been made across July and August:
- Fitting out of the Sundew Court bar
- Internal decoration of block A and communal areas
- Installed of canopy roofs to blocks A and C
- Completion of balconies and balustrades
- Work has commenced of block B8 with enabling works ongoing in readiness of drainage works ahead of sub-structure operations
- Outside planting continues
- Feature lighting has now been installed in the main communal areas and apartment block A
Darren added: “As for any challenges during this latest phase of work, our biggest issue has been working in scorching hot temperatures. We’re not ones to complain about the sunshine and we’d much rather that over rain but it’s made the external planting and landscaping difficult with areas drying out very quickly.
“However, the progress is there for us to see with a handful of things left to complete now before we handover the first phase of the project.”
