McPhillips Community Fund

Following a hugely successful inaugural year, the McPhillips Community Fund has returned to provide grant support to five different grassroots organisations in Shropshire.

Our focus in 2026/2027 is on improving the mental health of men in the region, particularly veterans, underpinning the company’s role as a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant.

McPhillips is also a proud supporter of the charity Mates in Mind, whose work is rooted in improving mental health across the construction industry and related sectors.

In 2026/2027 grants have been awarded to:

  • 4 All Foundation – A men’s outreach hub that holds weekly cafe sessions in Harlescott, Shrewsbury, offering free food and drink as well as activities such as boxing, gardening, walking football and arts.
  • Ex-Forces to Community’s CIC – The Off the Back Foot project supporting veterans and their families in Telford & Wrekin to integrate into civilian life through mental health support, employment and advocacy.
  • Feed the Birds – A befriending service, offering weekly one to one volunteer home visits for isolated men, using bird feeding to encourage connection.
  • Shrewsbury Men’s Shed – An organisation holding monthly cooking classes for shed members called ‘Healthy Eating Cookery Skills’, helping men who lack the skills or confidence to cook healthy meals from scratch.
  • Shropshire Rural Support – Runs a project called Farmers’ Pit Stop: Tackling Isolation in Rural Men – a series of evening-based meet ups for isolated rural men across the region. It is designed to help men who are unlikely to engage with traditional mental health services.

As Shropshire’s biggest construction company, we launched the McPhillips Community Fund in partnership with Shropshire Community Foundation to commemorate our 60th anniversary with a commitment to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.

Through the fund, grants have already been awarded to Bright Star Boxing, Home-Start Telford, Community Resource’s Buddy Program, Designs in Mind, Amber Bee CIC and 4 All Foundation.

The funding supported more than 1,200 people from schoolchildren to elderly residents to access services aimed at improving their mental wellbeing.
