School pupils add touch of colour to Kidderminster project

School pupils have been putting their gardening skills to good use by helping plant hundreds of daffodil bulbs in Kidderminster.

The children from Sutton Park Primary School spent a morning working alongside staff from McPhillips and representatives from Arcadis to plant up areas incorporated into the ongoing Worcester Street Connectivity Project.

As a thank you, a plaque recognising the children’s hard work was installed at the site.

Dan Redmond, contracts manager for McPhillips, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the pupils and teachers at Sutton Park Primary School for helping us with the bulb planting. It was a big task but a job made easy by having so many little helpers on site.

“The planting will really brighten up the area – all we need now is a bit of sunshine to help them bloom.

“The plaque has been installed on one of the walls as a reminder of the school’s involvement in the project.”

The connectivity project has seen the demolition of several buildings on site including the former Woolworths store which had been empty for 15 years, the Megavalue, Poundland and Sigma Aquatics buildings.

These will be replaced by a new outdoor green space as part of a wider regeneration of Kidderminster’s town centre.

The scheme is being funded through the Government’s Future High Streets Fund, with Kidderminster receiving £20.5 million to transform the town centre into a place where people want to work, visit and interact.
