McPhillips has been shortlisted in two categories at the North West Regional Construction Awards for its work on the showpiece Heart of Africa project at Chester Zoo.
The Telford-based construction firm is one of a number of finalists in the running for Project of the Year. It’s also shortlisted for the Integration & Collaborative Working Award.
McPhillips helped make history by completing the new African savannah development. Standing at 22.5 acres – equivalent to 17 football pitches – the habitat is the largest UK zoo habitat ever to be created.
McPhillips contracts director Andrew Dunham said: “We are super excited to be a finalist for these two awards. The Heart of Africa project has been a real labour of love for us all.
“Working on a site which is home to some of the world’s rarest and most magnificent animals added a whole new dimension to construction – and is something we have now developed a real expertise in.”
The team is currently working on another project with the zoo to create 51 contemporary luxury lodges for short breaks and a two-storey welcome building featuring an onsite restaurant.
The annual North West Regional Construction Awards is held in partnership with Constructing Excellence.
The winners will be announced on July 10 at an awards ceremony in Liverpool, which will be attended by more than 400 construction professionals from across the region.
The latest award shortlisting follows McPhillips being named as a finalist in the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce Company of the Year category and shortlisted for the Champion of Champions award.
