A charity golf day organised by award winning Shropshire construction company McPhillips has raised £781.50 for Severn Hospice.
The annual event, an 18-hole individual Stableford, was played in scorching temperatures at The Astbury Golf Club near Highley, Bridgnorth.
Stuart Mackenzie, Director at McPhillips, said: “We were delighted to raise such a significant sum for Severn Hospice, which continues to do such outstanding work supporting families affected by incurable disease.”
The McPhillips Golf Day saw 34 players tee off with teams made up of staff members, sub-contractors, supply chain colleagues and guests. Prizes were given out to the top 3 placed golfers, as well as for the longest drive and nearest the pin. The golf was followed by a meal and prize-giving.
Winner on the day was Martin Hill, who generously auctioned off his prize of a 4 ball at The Astbury to raise a further £100 for the charity.
Severn Hospice gives specialist care and support free of charge to families across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales. The charity was chosen in memory of McPhillips’ colleague Paul Handley who recently received care from the hospice.
Jenny Bean, Severn Hospice Corporate Fundraiser said: “We are incredibly grateful to the McPhillips team for their generous support. Their Golf Day was a heartfelt tribute to their colleague Paul, and we are privileged to have cared for him.
“This donation will make a real difference, ensuring we can continue to provide compassionate care to local families when they need it most. As a charity we must raise £2 for every £3 we spend, and we rely on the generosity of our local community. Support from businesses like McPhillips means the world to us and to the families we care for.”
Stuart Mackenzie added: “It was a hugely successful day and my thanks go to everyone who attended and helped us raise so much money for such an amazing cause.”
