REASEHEATH INFRASTRUCTURE, CHESHIRE

McPhillips commenced the construction of the main infrastructure works to the proposed 1000+ plot Kingsbourne development at Reaseheath, Nantwich in July 2017.  We have been employed by a consortium of David Wilson Homes, Redrow Homes and Taylor Wimpey to undertake the on-site infrastructure which includes a £4m diversion of the existing A51.

The first phase of works consisted of 700 metres of shared spine road and adjacent estate roads to individual parcels of land providing access for each consortium member’s site.

The scheme has a number of notable civil engineering requirements that include a high capacity pumping station 7 metres deep, with associated storage tanks, and a single 20m span pedestrian bridge incorporating drainage outfalls and spanning the River Weaver. Drainage installation within the site has been at depths of up to 5 metres, and cutting edge trench support and de-watering techniques have been used.

As principal contractor McPhillips were managing the multi-utilities subcontractor including carrying out the civils work and duct installation in connection with road crossings to new properties for water, gas and electric supplies.

Current site conditions have presented the construction team with a number of challenges, including very high water table levels and associated ground conditions. Although close to the market town of Nantwich, the site is in a rural location. Ecological and wildlife constraints include the protection of water voles, badger setts and native trees. Future works will include the construction of new habitats for the wildlife.

Phase 1 works completed in August 2018, and McPhillips returned to site in February 2019 to begin the phase 2 infrastructure works with the A51 diversion, including construction of a number of highway structures, scheduled to start in early 2020.
