The Deep Dig…Finola Corley

My role at McPhillips is…

Quantity Surveyor.

I have been with the company since…

2014.

I would describe my professional development with McPhillips as…

Everyday is a school day.

A typical day for me would be…

Office day – communicating with clients, answering queries, formulating quotations, application for payment, paying subcontractors, subcontract orders, cost forecasts, financial reports, drawing change assessments.

On site – driving, meeting with our site team to carry out internal progress meetings, assess resources, programme, variations, any issues, change to the works. Meeting with clients to update them on progress, health and safety, production, commercial issues.

The list goes on and on.

There are dates and days that you need to be aware of as a Quantity Surveyor, but no day is the same.

The most challenging aspect of my role is…

Juggling time management and deciding which tasks take precedence in terms of importance.

I would describe my colleagues as…

The best part of my job.

My colleagues would describe me as…

Sassy/funny/the most active human in the company/likes a strawberry daiquiri.

The single biggest thing that sets McPhillips apart is…

You’re not just a number.

Could the construction industry do more to encourage women into the sector…

When I began my journey in construction, if I were to attend a meeting with a client, I would typically be the only woman. Now, there has been occasions when women out number men. We are getting there. I think the key is that the best person gets the job, not because of their gender.

Outside of work I really enjoy…

My happy place is outside.  Adventures off road, hiking, running, biking (road and mountain), triathlon, swimming, SUP, friends, family and beer.
