Wellington Town Centre

Client: Telford & Wrekin Council

Value: £877,000

Programme: 24 weeks

Completion Date: October 2010

McPhillips was the Principal Contractor on this public realm improvement scheme working in the heart of Wellington Town Centre directly outside a large number of retail and leisure premises with significant pedestrian and traffic flows around the working areas.

The management of these was the responsibility of McPhillips’ Site Agent and he was able to maintain access to all frontages during trading hours by using off-peak working and restricting paving gangs to working in 40m sections.

McPhillips’ paving gangs removed the existing pre-cast concrete paving and street furniture, and laid ducts for repositioning of the existing CCTV system and diversion of services for cable TV, telecoms, water and electricity. 3000m2 of Blyko Novostone and Formpave Cornish setts were laid along with surface drainage improvements through installation of new gulleys and channels. New signage, planters, tree pits, benches, cycle racks and waste bins were installed.

The project was subject to significant additional works with the inclusion of Walker Street at the request of the Client. This was incorporated within our programme with no impact on the original activities.
