We undertook highway improvements outside Birmingham Airport as part of a term contract with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.  The works centred around the B4438 Bickenhill Lane, Coleshill Heath Road and Station Way and included the construction of 3-lane carriageways with a dedicated bus lane; new traffic light crossings and junctions; over 10,000m of ducting for communications, traffic signals, signage and street lighting; construction of footpath / cycleway routes; concrete structures for variable message signs, capping beams and headwalls; storm drainage using up to 1500mm diameter pipes and 3m diameter manholes to the latest design codes for high flows.  We were required to undertake extensive management of Statutory Undertakers due to the extent of underground services serving both the Airport and the NEC. Our traffic management effectively dealt with not only the high day to day flows in the area but we also liaised with the NEC/LG Arena Management to ensure that major events at the venues were not impacted by our works.
