Extra Care scheme completed

Wednesday, 18 November 2009

The £7m Parkwood Extra Care facility has been completed and handed over to The Wrekin Housing Trust.

The facility contains 37 two bedded and 17 one bedded high quality apartments that are wheelchair accessible. Each apartment contains a fully fitted kitchen with built-in oven, hob, extractor fan and fridge/freezer, a shower room with non-slip flooring and an emergency community alarm.  The amenities are just as impressive and include a shop, gym, hairdressers, hobbies room and restaurant.

Paul Spooner, Regional Director for the Homes and Communities Agency officially opened the building and commented: "The quality and design of this facility has set the standard for Extra Care and I am delighted to be here today to celebrate the opening. The success of the project to date is testament to the commitment and vision of all the partners involved in the Parkwood story."

Pamela Edwards, General Manager of Supported Housing at The Wrekin Housing Trust said: "Parkwood is the Trust's flagship extra care scheme and sets high standards for the concept. Having been involved in all stages of the build and development of this fantastic scheme, I am thrilled at the end result."

She added: "The Trust has worked hard to provide a modern, yet environmentally friendly building. On behalf of everyone at the Trust I would like to thank the contractors, partners, and staff who have made this all possible."

In addition to Paul Spooner cutting the ribbon and unveiling the plaque to the new building, DCI Alan Edwards from Telford and Wrekin Police presented a 'Secured by Design' certificate to the Chair of The Wrekin Housing Trust, Bob Floyd. The project is the first fully completed project to be awarded the Secured By Design certificate in Telford & Wrekin.
