Parkwood Extra Care

Saturday, 28 March 2009

Local boxer Richie Woodhall tried his hand at bricklaying during the recent topping out ceremony for the Parkwood Extra Care project.

This scheme is to deliver a £9m assisted living facility for Wrekin Housing Trust which includes 50 self-contained flats and extensive communal facilities in Woodside, Telford.

Bob Floyd, Chair of The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: "This scheme is a significant achievement in the Trust's tenth anniversary year. Parkwood is set to revolutionise the way in which extra care schemes are regarded. Having invested £9.1 million into the development we are creating a superb building, which is due for completion in the autumn. Working closely with the developers, McPhillips, we have incorporated a number of alternative greener benefits into the scheme that will look to set the standard for future developments. In addition to a glass atrium the building also has energy efficient boilers and facilities to recycle rainwater."

Cllr Bob Groom, the Mayor of Telford and Wrekin said: "What a wonderful development Parkwood is. The council is very proud to be part of this exciting project. It will be a great asset to the town and the people of Woodside. The Wrekin Housing Trust and McPhillips are to be commended and congratulated for a job very well done."

Mr Peter McPhillips, Joint Managing Director of McPhillips said: "As a local company we are very pleased to be working in partnership with The Wrekin Housing Trust. We have been established in the building industry in Shropshire for 45 years and we are committed towards building high quality community projects, which improve the lives of local people and help safeguard jobs in our building industry."

Richie Woodall said: "I have many happy memories of growing up on Woodside. It was an honour to be invited to lay a brick at this brilliant scheme as part of the wider Woodside regeneration."
